The House System was re-launched in September 2011 following extensive consultation with both students and staff and the launch and naming of a new fifth House. Every member of the school community is a member of one of the five houses named after ships linked with Earl Mountbatten’s naval career:

The House System encourages a sense of family and belonging with older students supporting and encouraging younger students in all aspects of school life. It is also a vehicle for developing leadership skills in our young people. A House Captain and a team of House Prefects lead each House and play an important role in shaping the ethos of their House. Each House has its own national and international charity, sustainability project, and international partner school link. All students are encouraged to be valued members of their House through active participation in the life of the school.

The sporting life of the school is led by a male and female Sports Captain for each House assisted by a team of Sports Prefects. Many of the Sports Prefects lead a variety of extra-curricular activities at lunchtime and after-school developing the sporting talents in others and providing valuable enrichment opportunities. Healthy competition is encouraged and inter-house competitions take place across a range of sports as well as across curriculum areas.

We are extremely proud of our House Captains, Sports Captains and Prefects who are chosen following a rigorous selection procedure. In order to achieve Prefect status, students must demonstrate the personal qualities and high standards required of this ambassadorial role alongside a record of active and positive contributions to the school community.
