Getting an iPad to mirror to an Apple TV via Airplay is not as simple as connecting them both up to the same wireless network SSID when using a Meru wireless network.
This is due to Airplay using Bonjour for discovery. Mulitcasting and UDP broadcast ports have to be enabled on the wireless network SSID you wish the iPad and Apple TV to be connected to. However for multicasting to work on a Meru network you should have one to one mapping with the Security profile >> one ESS profile >> one VLAN - it has to be one to one or multicasting is automatically disabled.
The following configuration steps are needed on the Meru controller:
- Log into the GUI
- Click on the “Configuration” Tab
- Click on “System Settings” under “Devices”
- Click on “UDP Broadcast Up”
- Click “Add”
- Enter port number “5297″ click OK
- Repeat to enter in port numbers “5298″ and “5353″
- Click on “UDP Broadcast Down”
- Click “Add”
- Enter port number “5297″ click OK
- Repeat to enter in port numbers “5298″ and “5353″
- Click on the “Configuration” Tab
- Click on “ESS” under “Wireless”
- Select the relevant ESS profile and click “Settings”
- Set the “Allow Multicast Flag” to “On”
Below is a screenshot of our ESS profile which when an iPad and Apple TV are connected to the SSID allows the iPad to connect to the Apple TV via Airplay.
